When thinking about ideas to create this poster I wanted to
add a border this effect has created leading lines which lures viewers to this
poster, creating a border was simple because I have already learnt how to use
Photoshop and I have tutorials based on Photoshop techniques, I chose pink
because it goes well with the white and grey background without being
overpowering, I also added a spray texture on the edges of the border I believe
this creates more detail which some viewers find interesting. Furthermore I used
a pink font colour to harmonise with the border this creates a balanced image,
the text is also clear you can see it has a strong contrast against the grey
background so viewers can read from a distance. All the subjects within the
frame have not been overwhelmed by the pink it is still the focal point of this
poster. Moreover there is also a contrast between the vibrant and earthy
colours within the poster this sets the border and image apart. I used a black
and red glow effect on the subheading to create a strong contrast this will
make it eye catching and striking, I placed text on the sides of the image
because I did not want to cover the subjects this may distract viewers from the
details within the ice cream.
This poster is advertising a commercial ice cream I chose
this image because it was shot at a diagonal position this creates a slanted
effect which is inconsistent with some of my other images it also allows more
of the grey background within the frame this creates a strong contrast with the
chocolate. I used an image weave effect in Photoshop because I enjoy the
pattern effect it creates I think it looks interesting and attractive it could
entice some viewers because it looks bizarre and diverse. Using Photoshop to
create an image weave was difficult because every step had to be perfect for the
effect to work I believe creating this effect has improved my editing skills.
The lines that are created by the weave are bold the black voids pull viewers
towards the poster, the square shapes add a pattern effect furthermore the
colours are pale and lifeless this supports my overall aesthetic theme of
homemade ice creams against supermarket ice creams. Moreover the black coloured text harmonises
with the weave effect and it creates a strong contrast against the grey this
makes it easier for viewers with eye sight problems to read.
I felt this image would look unique using a colour popping effect;
I transformed the whole image to a black and white layer I then used an eraser
tool to erase the black and white layer revealing the colour. The texture
within the roses is very beautiful you can see the water droplets on the petals
this creates a pattern effect, the contrasting colour tones make this image striking
and eye catching. The top half contains a shallow depth of field this is useful
when reverting the viewers’ attention to the focal point of my poster. Furthermore standing water has created a
reflective effect against natural light you can see the reflective effect under
the rose shapes. I used harmonious colours on the title to create a composed
image but I will need to change this because it blends in with the colour of
the ice cream this makes it difficult for viewers to read. The text contains
yellow and orange colour tones this reflects the colour of my ice creams.
I used an overlay texture effect of a snow flake using
Photoshop; this relates to one of the main themes it reflects a cold and
beautiful texture. I also think the overlay texture creates a contrast between
the background and overlay this makes the image attractive and eye catching. The colours are very vibrant the whole image
reflects a cold winter’s day while the ice cream contains a red fiery colour
which represents a hot summers day this is a conflict between themes it plays
with the viewer’s mind. The floral pattern on the plate reflects a summer’s day
this is perfect when advertising ice cream. The lighting within the image was
created by natural light. But I have made the same mistake on this poster by
choosing a sky blue colour on the text I have made it blend in with the
background this makes it difficult for viewers to read. To create a strong
contrast I must change the text to a brighter or darker colour. When creating the subheading and address I decided
to experiment with italic font and a cross between black and blue and black and
green colours the effect this has created is very striking and unique it
attracts and draws people to my poster.
This poster directly relates to my aesthetic theme for this
project which is homemade ice cream against commercial ice cream the idea
behind this is to shows a commercial ice cream poster which is old and tearing
away to reveal a new and beautiful homemade ice cream poster. I used an overlay texture of an old scrunched up
paper then I placed it on top of my home made poster, I used a warp effect to
create that bend but I had a problem when creating a rip effect when erasing
the corners I was left with empty space so I created another layer of the old
poster so that when I erase the top layer it would reveal the same image
without the empty space. I think the text works well because it creates a
strong contrast against the red and grey background this makes it easy to read
from a far distance. The colour tones
are a mixture of vibrant and pale. Some of the text contains black and purple colour
tones; black and purple is completely different from any aspects of my poster
so it helps it stand out.
I used natural light when capturing these images, natural light
has brought out the colour and detail in the ice creams, when deciding on which
image I should use I wanted to create a poster with two contrasting images it amplifies
the varying styles within my ice creams. When adding text I have used a black
font which is simple and bold I think I did not have to use sophisticated font styles
because that would make it difficult for people with eye sight problems to read.
Furthermore both images are contrasting but they are also harmonising because it
contains white ice cream with a coconut and red ice cream with red jelly this
reflects that I have planned every aspect of my images some viewers appreciate
images that have been created using detailed planning they want to know the story
behind an image why was it created? What is the theme? These are just some of
the common questions viewers ask themselves.
