Studio shoots 1
This was my first shoot within the studio; I was given an
introduction to what each piece of equipment is used for and the health and
safety rules. I started off by experimenting with different lighting
techniques; firstly I used a light meter to measure the flash and all light
sources which fall onto the subject. The aperture value was f/16, I then
directed Ashley to my desired pose. Soft
light has illuminated every inch of the frame this has allowed me to capture
the small details e.g. the colour of her hair has many variations of brown. There
are no shadows or dark areas. The
texture is very soft and smooth this makes the viewer feel relaxed.
I directed this model to crouch to the left hand side and
look at the camera, the eye contact pulls the viewer in, the contrast between
him and the background is strong, the clenched fist makes the model look tough
and manly. His facial expression is hinting that he has no emotion this is a
common trait within Gangster style shoots because artists want to inform viewers
that organised criminals have no remorse. Moreover
the posture creates curvaceous shapes which create a flowing line.
I wanted to add some comedy within this image so I directed
the model to shade her eye from the camera I think this method can make an
image popular. Because she has shaded her eyes from the light, a slight shadow
is visible even with soft light you can create shadows. The floral design adds some vibrancy to an
otherwise pale image.
The definition of light within the image shows that soft
light was used when shooting this image, I used this lighting effect because I wanted to
create an overall balanced and even tone throughout the frame. The contrast
between the models clothing and background is strong additionally soft light
has enhanced this technique by brightening the colour of the whole image,
Moreover the poses have helped me add flowing and curvaceous lines e.g. the
legs are bold and curved some viewers may find this attractive.
This image shows that height can make a significant
difference in dominance, Kerry has her arm resting over Ashley’s shoulder it
makes Ashley look submissive, some viewers may interpret this has one person
having control over another.
