I chose to shoot within two locations, Calverley woods and
Bradford City Centre; I chose Calverley woods because it contains many
interesting objects such as: tree stumps, fallen leaves, river, ponds and moss.
The reason for choosing Bradford city centre was because of the success from my
first shoot I was left with enough time to improve the aesthetic theme of my
overall project, so I decided to shoot within an urban environment this will
allow me to capture man-made objects such as railings, fountains and statues.
I completed three shoots
- · First shoot within Calverley woods
- · Second shoot within Bradford City Centre
- · Still life Jewellery
- · Diptych Mannequin
Carverley woods Leeds
– This shoot went well because the weather conditions during the day were good, wind -
14mph, partly cloudy and temperature was 15 Celsius. I captured many images
using compositional techniques such as: Leading lines, Contrast, Low angle,
High angle, Birds eye view and Harmonising colours.
Second shoot Bradford City Centre – This shoot went to plan because
I was able to capture a wide range of images that reflect Man-made architecture,
weather conditions during the day were great the temperature was 17 Celsius and
clear skies this allowed me to create reflective images and shadows.
Still Life Jewellery - During this shoot I had to choose
from a batch of jewellery including: Bracelets, Necklaces, Rings and watches, I
carried out the shoot within Bradford. The shoot went well because I was able
to capture many exciting and eye catching images because jewellery is
reflective I was able to use bright glow effects to enhance the detail within my
images. For example I wrapped my Bracelet around a flower to create a contrast
between pink and metallic silver.
Diptych Mannequin - During this shoot I was given a small mannequin,
I had to change the pose and position of this mannequin and then I used a model
to copy the same pose, this method improved my speaking skills because I directed
the model to my preferred position and pose.

Research on Photographers
- · Irving Penn
- · Norman Parkinson
- · David Bailey
At the start of this project I had to think about my photo-shoot
plan and ideas because it is a short project I did not want to fall behind. When
researching Mannequin Photographers I came across Still life Images by Irving
Penn this inspired me to shoot still life images of watches.
When shooting my images, I enjoyed using Depth of field because
it allowed me to add more emphasis on my watches it also created a distorted effect
similar to the effect you get when shooting nightlife images for example street
lamps contain distorted circles. Furthermore I enjoyed using shadows because woods
contain dense woodland it blocks out the light this crates rays of sunlight that
I used to place my subject under.
My Ideas changed because of the success from my first shoot I
had enough time to improve the overall aesthetic theme, I decided to complete a
second shoot with the same idea but with a different environment I carried out
an urban shoot to use as a comparison between natural and urban settings.
