Research on Food Posters Unit - 8

Research on Historic and contemporary Food posters

Contemporary

The focal point of this poster is positioned within the centre this emphasises its importance, the subjects were shot at eye level this makes it easier for the viewer to see, The background colour is very vibrant and earthy this makes it visible from long distances. The Heading is in large capital letters which are easy to read furthermore the white colour creates a strong contrast this makes it eye catching. The overall colour theme represents the (Subway logo) this makes it noticeable to Subway customers, Moreover the logo is clearly visible on the bottom left.  You can also notice the texture of the bun and chicken this detail can entice people to eat at subways.
The poster is unmistakably aimed towards students and employees, who normally eat out at lunch time hours; it could also be aimed at people who go to subways on a regular basis because it is advertising an (Eat fresh) club.

The main aspect of this KFC poster is the colour tones; there is a strong contrast between the plate and background colour this makes it attention grabbing, the heading is persuading and daring people to take the step towards purchasing a spicier meal. The heading also contains bright and rich colours that harmonise with the overall colour scheme. The price and meal is clearly visible within the poster, prices are placed with a red circle with white font this again creates a strong eye catching contrast, I can see the texture is crispy and warm this supports the main heading which says (Crunchier). I can also see the colour theme represents a sunset this may be reflecting that the meal is bought mostly at sunset hours.
This poster is aimed at people who are out going during the evening who like to eat hot and spicy fast food.

This poster by ASDA is very interesting because it has taken advantage of Ramadhan, I have noticed the colours represent a sunset and night time hours this is reflecting (IFTARI) the time after sunset when Muslim are allowed to eat. The overall theme is inspired by a religious and cultural event you can see the mosque located at the top right side which represents Islam. The font colour is white and yellow it is also a good size which makes it easy to read. Furthermore the Heading  says (Ramadan Mubarak) which means happy Ramadhan this greeting is welcoming, the food is framed within a white rectangle this separates it from other subjects. Moreover the offers are placed within a red Circular shape this catches the viewers’ attention. The subjects represent Middle and eastern cuisines
This poster is marketed directly to Muslims and people who enjoy eating Asian foods; it is influenced by British Muslims.

Historic

This is a poster by Birds custard, the setting suggests that the custard is ideal or recommended for picnics, the typography is italic and bold the size is good but the font could make it difficult for people with eye sight problems to read. Moreover the typography located on the subjects is bold and easy to read. The colour tones are very bright and earthy this makes the viewer feel relaxed and calm it also has a very uplifting effect this is due to the summery and floral theme. Furthermore the summer weather and picnic seen makes the British seem typical during the summer months, the custard tins are positioned in the centre this emphasis its importance, the fruits surrounding the tins represent the brand colours which are blue, yellow and red.
This poster is aimed at families who like to visit parks and countryside locations during summer.

This image may have been shot during World War 1, it is a propaganda image misleading society for political gains, it is informing the public that the war is a two way deal and they need to help each other to succeed. The contrast between the yellow and grey text and black background creates a strong contrast this makes it easy to read from a far distance, the soldier is pointing into the distance this suggests that he is pointing towards the enemy. Additionally the soldier is looking directly at the viewer this is useful when attracting people.
This poster is aimed at the public, adults who are responsible for shopping and food retailers.

This poster is representing an American cake called Twinkies; the first aspect I noticed is the comedy theme it shows a Twinkie made to look like a boxer who is nocking people down it also shows a cashier who is very happy this suggests that the food company is persuading retailers to buy their product. The typography is coloured in white and positioned within a black rectangle this creates an eye catching contrast. The text represents emotion and the exclamation mark adds energy. Furthermore it describes the cake as being cream filled and it backs up this fact by showing a Twinkie cut open this creates trust between the viewer and retailer.  I am also curious as to why the retailer has decided to use a boxing theme maybe boxing was famous at the time because Muhammad Ali, Rocky Marciano and Joe Frazier were famous in America during the 60s to 80s.
This poster is aimed at people of all ages who don’t mind eating sugary snacks, it may also appeal to boxing enthusiasts.
